To the Memory of "Domino", a very brave dog

1993 - 23 February 2003

A tribute to our special Angel - my best friend, who showed me what it means to love fully and unconditionally.

Merolyn & Domino on the beach that he loved
Domino with Merolyn, on the beach that he so loved.
Domino - our beloved spotted child.
Your seat on the frontstoepbench is empty,
Your voice is quiet when the phone rings.
More than the spots spread out over your body,
I want to tell everyone of my love for you.
- Merolyn

Domino, a liver colored Dalmatian, was the love of Merolyn's life!!! During all of his ten years on this earth he enriched the lives of Merolyn and her family with love, joy and happiness. Wherever Merolyn was, Domino was by her side.

He adored the beach and shared with them many happy times at their beach house on the cape of South Africa. He was always in his element when playing in the surf, swimming and romping in the sand dunes. His days were always active, filled with going places and doing things like running, playing, happily shaking off the water from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail after a swim, and falling asleep at their feet at the end of the day.

Domino had many friends - everyone whose lives he touched fell in love with him. He also shared his happy home on a big piece of land with his many animal friends in the family; Two Appaloosa horses- a leopard gelding called Indian Summer (so he looks just like Domino) and Summer's mother called Tallulah Too, and Master Jack -a pet goat, plenty of chickens and about 13 geese. All of them gave him love and pleasure in life.

Domino was in perfect health and very active, until he was attacked by an aggressive dog - a stranger - in May 2002. He became very sick following that attack. Domino bravely fought for his life for all the months that followed. Although he endured great suffering, he never lost his courage or his spirit or his loving temperament. Even as he continued to lose his weight, he faced each day with a determined optimism and will to live, and showered Merolyn with that special love and devotion he held for her.

Now Domino is at the Rainbow Bridge, restored to health and vigor, where he will be reunited with Merolyn some new and happy day...

"Sad are the hearts that loved you.
Silent are the tears that fall.
Living our lives without you,
is the saddest part of all."

"The light of your eyes still shines
Memory of your face so strong
There'll always be another month and year
Another laugh and tear
Another summer, winter too
But there'll never be another you."

"No matter how little money and how few possessions you own,
having a dog makes you rich."

-Louis Sabin

"If a dog's prayers were answered, bones would rain from the sky."
-Old proverb

" ... a morning kiss, a discreet touch
of his nose landing somewhere
on the middle of my face.
Because his long white whiskers tickled,
I began every day laughing."
-Janet F. Faure
